Private Conservancies

Naboisho, Olare Motorogi, Mara North & others

Land leased from Maasai landowners under agreements that cap bed numbers per acre.
No day visitors — access is generally limited to guests staying at a conservancy camp.
Night drives and walking safaris are typically allowed, though this is always camp-dependent.
Fewer camps sharing the land usually means fewer vehicles at any sighting.
Generally pricier per night, and a conservancy fee is usually charged on top of the camp rate.

You don't have to pick just one

Can I do a night drive in the Maasai Mara?

Not inside the national reserve — night drives are not permitted there. They're typically allowed in private conservancies such as Naboisho or Mara North, though it's always worth confirming with the specific camp, since some restrict timing or age.

Is a conservancy always more expensive than the reserve?

Generally yes, mainly because conservancy fees are charged on top of the camp rate and low bed-density models keep supply limited. It isn't universal — a modest conservancy camp can cost less than a top-tier lodge inside the reserve — but as a rule of thumb, conservancies sit at the mid-to-luxury end.
